Free bathing for people affected by the earthquake, from 3 September
From Thursday 3 September, Samata no Yu is taking part in the bathing support scheme run by Kumamoto Prefecture for people affected by the 2026 Kumamoto Earthquake. Who can use it Residents of the following five cities and seven towns who are living in an evacuation centre, or whose bathroom at home cannot be used. Kumamoto, Kamiamakusa, Uto, Uki, Yatsushiro Hikawa, Mifune, Kashima, Mashiki, Kosa, Ashikita, Misato What to bring Please show the free bathing certificate issued by your city or town office. You will also be asked to write your address, name and age on a reception form. Starts Thursday, 3 September 2026 For how to obtain a certificate and for details of eligibility, please contact your own city or town office. If you have any questions on the day, please ask at our reception.

Here is our schedule for September. Closed: Thursday, 10 September (We are normally closed on the second Thursday of each month.) Opening hours Hot spring: 10:00-21:00 (last admission 20:30) Restaurant: 11:30-15:00 Wakuwaku-kan farm shop: 9:00-18:00 Special days in September - The 26th is "Bath Day": admission 300 yen for adults, with a 50 yen discount for school children. - Double points every Wednesday and Friday. - Quadruple points on the first Thursday of the month. - Half-price private family baths every Monday (excluding public holidays). Events in September - Saturday 5 September: vegetable bag-stuffing sale at the farm shop - Saturday 12 September: Donburi Fair (rice-bowl day) - Saturday 26 September: Umaka Teishoku Fair (set-meal day) Please note that events may change or be cancelled depending on the weather and on what produce is available.
Misato Kyoryokutai Festival — Saturday, 26 September
Samata no Yu will host the Misato Kyoryokutai Festival, a day organised by Misato Town's community revitalisation team. Everyone is welcome, whether you live in Misato or are visiting. Date: Saturday, 26 September 2026, from 10:00 Venue: Roadside Station Misato, Samata no Yu Admission: Free (a separate bathing fee applies to use the hot spring) Misato e-Festa 2026 — Puyo Puyo esports tournament Held in the large tatami hall. Teams of two compete, and the first team to win two games takes the match. - Two divisions of 20 players each: one for Misato residents, and an open division anyone may enter. - Free to enter. Every competitor receives a prize, and the winning team is awarded a special certificate. - Reception from 9:30. Tournament 10:00–12:00 and 13:00–16:00. Prize draw 16:00–16:30. - The comedy duo Karashi Renkon, known from the KAB programme "Karashi Combo", are expected to visit around 10:00. Paint your own tenugui Paint the scenery and memories of Misato onto a tenugui, a traditional Japanese cotton cloth, and take home a one-of-a-kind souvenir. 1,000 yen per person. Available while materials last. New local products and a design consultation Try and buy prototypes of new local products developed by the team. Design advice is also available. Misato Gacha Receive a token when you bathe at Samata no Yu, shop at the market, or buy from a food truck. Collect three tokens to try the capsule-toy prize draw. Food trucks will also be on site. Private family baths (50 minutes) are by reservation. Same-day bookings are accepted from 8:30 a.m. by phone or at the front desk — a quiet soak just for your family or group.
